Mazda’s new CX-5 Minagi Concept

Mazda set to take on the Audi Q5 and BMW X1 with small SUV based on Minagi concept.

Mazda has unveiled its Geneva Motor Show star - its new Minagi concept. Previewing a new, small crossover, likely to be called the CX-5, the Minagi is clearly influenced by Mazda’s new design language.

Introduced on the Shinari concept, the styling theme is called Kodo – Soul of Motion, and is the work of Mazda’s new design chief, Ikuo Maeda.

Elements like the angular shield-shaped grille; narrow, feline headlights and swooping roofline are all carried over in what promises to be a design that wins the firm new fans when the car makes production.

Few details have been released so far, but the concept also features Mazda’s new SKYACTIV technology, which includes downsized, efficient engines and transmissions, and a greater use of lightweight but strong materials in the car’s construction for improved safety and agility.

 The Minagi will be shown at Geneva alongside the Shinari concept, and Mazda’s new petrol and diesel engines, and new transmissions.

Take the badge off...

...and this could be from almost any manufacturer, no? But especially from Opel/Vauxhall - a new Antara. At least they've abandoned that horrid 'wave' nonsense down the sides.

This looks good although I agree with the comment above to some degree - its similar to quite a few other SUV's. Nonetheless it looks the part as Mazda's do and should be a fine driver as Mazda'a are.

Nice design Mazda!!

I do like my Mazdas and I think this design looks great. IMHO the CX-7 is still the best looking SUV on the road, if this baby version looks half as good then thumbs up from me!
