Infiniti has confirmed the emissions and performance specs for its new M35h hybrid saloon that’s due to arrive in the UK later this year. The newcomer will join the conventional M37 petrol and M30d diesel models, and becomes the fastest, yet greenest M model in the firm’s range.
Powered by a 3.5-litre V6 and electric motor, the M35h’s combined output is 359bhp, 18bhp more than its only natural rival, the Lexus GS450h. Allied to its 1,830kg weight – the Lexus tips the scales at 1,930kg – this allows the M35h to hit 62mph from rest in 5.5 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the Lexus, while both cars share the same 155mph top speed.
Despite its performance advantage, the Infiniti returns 40.4mph and emits 162g/km of carbon dioxide, versus 36.7mpg and 179g/km of the GS450h, making it £155 to tax, rather than £300.
Infiniti claims that the M35h can travel on electric power alone at speeds of up to 50mph, albeit for an unconfirmed distance. Neat tech includes a system called Approaching Vehicle Sound, which emits a noise that varies in pitch, to warn pedestrians of the car’s approach at speeds of up to 19mph.
Prices for the Infiniti M35h, which will be offered in either GT or GT Premium trim levels, are due to be announced before the
Geneva Motor Show.
