Porsche has reached 1,000,000 fans on social networking site Facebook. And to celebrate, the firm has created a special wrap for its 911 GT3 R Hybrid which features 27,000 randomly selected names taken from it list of Facebook followers.

The firm selected the 911 GT3 R Hybrid as it “impressively embodies the future of motorsport - with Porsche Intelligent Performance.”

The hybrid racer features a 473bhp 4.0-litre flat-six engine which drives the rear wheels. This is supplemented by a pair of electric motors, each producing 60kW (80bhp), which drive the front wheels.

Instead of batteries, the electric motors are powered by an electric flywheel accumulator which is charged during braking. The 911 GT3 R Hybrid has already competed at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring where it looked like the car would take victory, but for an engine failure while leading with just three hours to go.
