MINI's Coupe is coming! Our spy photographers have snapped the clearest pictures yet of a pair of camouflaged MINI Coupes, ahead of the car's launch date later this year. But these aren't just another set of images, they confirm that a hot John Cooper Works model will be part of the line up and reveal a number of other important details, too.
Previewed by the 2009 MINI Coupe concept, it's clear that the production version will stick rigidly to the original show car's styling. Take a close look at the camouflaged areas and you can see the same floating-roof design that forms the roof spoiler, plus the steeply-raked rear screen. The uncovered bodywork is identical to the MK2 MINI Hatchback on which the Coupe is based.
Giveaways that this is the range-topping JCW variant include the large-diameter, centrally-mounted twin exhaust pipes, plus badging on the wheels and front grille of the lighter-coloured car. A deeper front spoiler and side skirts also hint at the two-seater's potential.
Look carefully at the black car and you can make out a pop-up rear spoiler, which deploys above certain speeds. And it should prove useful as this JCW version is will get the same turbocharged 1.6-litre powerplant as the hatch, producing 211bhp and capable of hitting a top speed of around 150mph.
The Coupe is the first in a rash of new models on the way from MINI over the next few years, including a two-seater roadster, a production version of the Countryman-based Paceman coupe and possibly even a showroom-ready incarnation of the pocket-sized MINI Rocketman shown at Geneva this month.

I'd be looking under the car, looking for a 'cut and shut' line! The back end reminds me of that God awful Micra CC. The Mini Rocketman, yes. This abomination, NO!
A modern Prometheus it ain't.
The 211bhp engine (ala Audi TT, VW Scirocco, Seat FR et al) is a belter though...
As abortions go this has to be the best so far, I totally agree with ajjm65, this car is one of those things when just because you can don't mean you should, this car will look like a clown car next to all the other coupes that are currently out there, people that buy this car don't forgets your free red nose and baggy bright red trousers with braces with every car!
This is ugly but no worse than all cars from Germany at the minute. I can't think of a good looking car from bmw, vw, audi, seat ect for the last few years.
couldnt agree more with you,all german stuff is gone seriously unreliable&of extreme bad quality,i sold a 15mth old scirocco with 9k klm on clock, the worst car i ever bought, they are starting to age v v badly also. the mini will probably be as overpriced&overated as that other complete joke, the audi A1.what a crass 'car'.
No I didn't mean "Nice". Definitely will suit someone I should imagine - they will have no trouble selling the two they have built.
The third might be a struggle...............
...WHY?
By that I mean; Why produce a coupe version of an already quick car in the JCW Mini? All BMW have succeeded in doing is to produce a car that is even less versatile than the already compromised original. You'll never hear a Mini owner boasting about cavernous boot space or acres of leg and headroom in the rear of their beloved motor.
Don't know about you but I'm getting fed up with "a new day, a new Mini". If they carry on like this there will be10,000 variants offering 66 billion options - making one diluted brand that everyone will start to hate. Another new Mini? Yawn. So what?
I went past the local dealership the other day and saw a Mini for... wait... £30,000. Thirty grand for a Mini!!!! What the....!!! I could get a whole house for that not to many years ago!!! Are they insane???

Mini is turning into a Ford Transit so many different variations which I get if it's a Transit you're buying but not a Mini.
BMW own Cooper, Riley and Triumph.
So why squeez out another Mini version?
This engine in a new spaceframe chassis, could be a new Cooper T39 Bobtail, for the track, a Riley Kestrel Sprite TT, or a Triumph Spitfire.
Surely this is just a sporty version of a Mini in the way MG Midgets were when the mini was a real British Car. Does BMW think we will all treat this Mini Coupe as a classic British sports car. As an MG fan I wouldn't go near this ugly German car
This is going to be the lightest and fasted MINI to date, can't wait to drive one, it's going to be superb! Well done MINI for providing owners with lots of choice for different lifestyles.
This could be my fifth MINI (and they've all been superb).
how is there no good looking german car? scirroco? passat cc? E class coupe? need i go on ? the mini coupe is nice but id much rather have the new polo or golf GTI seen as this mini will cost around £30k. rip off! maybe if the stuck a twin turbo diesel in it then you could have some serious fun
I have to agree with Madsteve7 this could so easily have been a new Triumph Spitfire. Surely there is still a market?
