The entries are in for this year’s British Touring Car Championship! The BTCC kicks off on April 3 at Brands Hatch, with 13 different models from 10 different car makers set to face off in what promises to be a vintage season. The bumper entry list beats the BTCC’s previous record of nine makes and 11 models in 1993.
Jason Plato returns to defend his BTCC championship driving one of four Chevrolet Cruzes. A single, older Lacetti model will also hit the grid. The works Silverline Chevrolet team will take on Honda’s pair of Civics for manufacturer honours.
Ford’s new global touring car, based on the latest Focus, makes its racing debut in April, with the Team Aon squad fielding three cars. A pair of previous generation Focus’ will also race under the Airwaves banner.
Two Audi A4s, a pair of Toyota Avensis and a Proton Gen-2 have been built to the new Next Generation Touring Car technical regulations which provide dramatically reduced costs.
Other cars taking the start are a quartet of Vauxhall Vectras, a trio of BMW 3 Series, a single entries for the SEAT Leon, VW Golf and Honda Integra.
BTCC Series Director Alan Gow commented: “I’m very, very proud about the way our 2011 season is taking shape. The fact our entry list includes ten different makes and 13 different models of cars – a record for the BTCC in the two-litre era – in what still remains a challenging financial period is, quite frankly, incredible
25 of the 27 entries are set to take the start at Brands Hatch, with the Proton Gen-2 of Daniel Welch and Honda Integra Type-R of Lea Wood set to join the series from the Snetterton and Oulton Park rounds respectively.
