At Porsche, black is back with the new Cayman S Black Edition. On sale this September, the production run of the mid-engined coupe will be limited to just 500 cars worldwide, each boasting a 3.4-litre flat-six engine, distinctive black colour scheme and luxuriously dark interior.
This latest addition to the Cayman family offers a bit more bite. Though mechanical changes are limited, maximum power is now delivered at 7,400rpm - up 200rpm - and acceleration is improved, shaving one-tenth off the 0-62 mph sprint time.
Top speed is also up, and this model is just one mph faster than the Cayman S.
However, this increase in power doesn’t jeopardise economy and consumption remains the same as in the standard car. Optional PDK, Porsche’s hybrid twin-clutch gearbox, is also available, further boosting acceleration.
The car’s dramatic black paintwork is further enhanced by new 19” black lightweight alloy wheels, courtesy of the Boxster Spyder, which are a full inch bigger than standard wheels.
Inside, the colour scheme is consistent with the car’s black nature. The two seats are trimmed in black partial leather, matching the dashboard, gear lever and instrument cluster dials.
And for those who might forget what Cayman they’re travelling in, stainless steel door entry guards featuring “Black Edition” lettering and a glove compartment lid, bearing a special edition badge should be enough to remind them!
As standard, this edition features Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic cornering lights and LED daytime running lights, together with automatic anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor.
The Cayman S Black Edition is on sale in the UK from September 2011, priced from £50,420 including, a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone.
