Is this the perfect marriage between power and beauty? We got our first glimpse of
Aston Martin’s jaw-dropping
V12 Zagato at the Villa D’Este Concours in Italy two weeks ago, but what Aston didn’t tell us was that the story doesn’t end there.
Looking stunning in its eye-popping, Kermit-green paint, this fully fledged race car is one of two V12 Zagatos that have been track prepared. And they won’t be on parade for the spectators’ benefit, either, as both are set to compete in the gruelling Nürburgring 24-Hour race on 25-26 June.
In the build-up to their endurance test, the cars – nicknamed Zig (seen here)
and Zag (a modified version
of the red model seen at Villa D’Este) – will take it in turns to complete a four-hour race each
at the famous German race track.
Among the drivers will be Aston CEO Dr Ulrich Bez and Richard Meaden from our sister title evo magazine. Modifications include more aggressive aerodynamics that feature a jutting front lip, a huge rear wing and diffuser.
The exact spec of the V12 Vantage 6.0-litre engine remains a secret, but the transmission is
a six-speed manual. Bez has confirmed that a strictly limited run of road cars will be produced, too, costing around £200,000 – £65,000 more than the standard V12 Vantage. Although designed by Zagato, the V12 special will
be built at Aston HQ in Gaydon, Warks, rather than being shipped to Italy in order to have its hand-beaten aluminium panels fitted.

The chinese get told off for this alot, making a car that looks like another model or a combination of a couple. Why has non of the motoring press picking up on this zagato. Heres the recipie, take 1 Aston, put the side windows in from a Nissan GTR, tail lights from a 458, rear window and tailgate shape from a Continental GT. COme on if your making out your a coach builder do something original. Dont copy.
A little picky, don't you think? All shapes and configurations can be traced to some other car. The shape of the side windows IS vaguely similar to the GT-R, but the rear quarter window is all AM. One could say that the Conty GT is a rip off of Aston Martin, since AM had the it first. And the the taillights do remind of a Ferrari, although I think they are closer to the FF, but so what, Zagato is an Italian company, after all. The fact is, this is an exciting shape entirely in keeping with Zagato design ethos, while still being identifiable as an Aston Martin. It doesn't even come close to being comparable to a Chinese design rip off, look to the Cygnet for that!
At first I liked it. But now...after time....I find the 'roundness' of the edges take away from the style. It makes it look unflattering - like its been hacked at. And the front 'mouth' or grill....looks like (dare I say) a tight b*tt hole. It's got that...'i just sucked on a lemon' shrinkage appearance (i guess you have to be a designer to understand - lol - or not). And yes...it does resemble in part..a Nissan GTR.
The rear end is more like a Zenvo ST-1 to me. The windows are GTR/Evora/Skoda Fabia/Suzuki Swift/even the bloody Range Rover. Whatever has wraparound glazing and blacked-out pillars... I can't pretend I love it but I do think some of you are being a bit picky.
Probably the best looking car Ive ever seen!
Sex goddess in green. Captain Kirk would have been quite taken.
Yes you can see bits of other cars in there but that is the result of going as far as one can with aerodynamics, its precisely this why all the worlds high speed trains, trucks and most other projectiles all look the same.
If this car races as well as it looks it should do OK and I wish I had one :-) The Kermit Green is a bit OTT but it will look good out in front, and let us not forget that Aston was the first to race for England in Green, but not the dark green we now accept as BRG, but a lighter and different shade of green only a few shades darker than Kermit.
