Two seats, lower suspension and only the most powerful engines in the range, meet the sportiest new MINI ever. The BMW-owned British firm has released these official, although still camouflaged, images of the new Coupe along with a raft of details on the newcomer.
Designed to take the MINI philosophy of driving fun to the limit, the Coupe features the distinctive 'helmet roof' first seen on the Coupe concept, as well as a steeply-raked rear screen and sits 29mm lower to the road than the hatchback. A pop-up spoiler deploys automatically at speeds above 50mph.
For a more dynamic driving experience, measure have been taken to increase body rigidity and shift the car's weight balance slightly further forward, giving the front-wheel-drive MINI Coupé even better traction off the line. The big change though is the two-seater layout, although there is additional storage space behind the front seats.
Only the most powerful petrol and diesel engines will be available. Outputs range from the 120bhp of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the 141bhp MINI Cooper SD Coupé and 181bhp MINI Cooper S Coupé, all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé with 208bhp. It will be the fastest model in the range to with the top-spec JCW model covering 0-62mpg in 6.4 secconds - a tenth quicker than the JCW hatch.
Prices and on sale date are yet to be confirmed but don't forget to log on later this week when we'll have a first drive of the pre-production car.

I am still amazed how well the mini shape has taken to a coupe profile. I still believe the chassis could take more than 200bhp.
This car will only sell to Women and Metro-sexual men. Its a horrid.
BMW streching a one model mark to stupid lengths. They must think photoshoping its front end onto any car ( this case the old Ford Ka street convertable) and it will sell. what next? Mini speedboat, 747 airliner and tiger tank.
time to come up with something really new or are they scared? that front end has been with us since 1997.
it really is time to stop diluting this brand. bmw have milked this way too many times and they've done it again.
this car offers nothing new - the mini is already a small two seat car - this is still FF, which goes against the supposed 'roadster' credentials, it's just more shite for women and trendy idiots who know nothing about cars
ugly. fail. give up...
There are certainly better and zippier cars on the market for less money and with better warranties! And it is certainly not stylish! Sorry Cowley but this is just not sportingly smart!
Styling seems to be going backwards since the ADO15s etc - this is not an advance on an Austin or Morris Mini in terms of concept or execution.
Yawn...
not another Bl***y Mini variant!
Am i the only one who thinks this car is past its sell by date?
Or are they trying to beat Leylands record for the first MINI?
They carry on to pretty them up, but do not want to know about any problems. It may as well still be British Leyland as far as reliability goes
Like most of the comments on here already, I'm sick of all the new Mini's that are being released.
When are we ever going to see an end to it??????
How many versions and variations of versions are already available and yet they still keep churning them out. I bet if they eve redesigned a bolt head on one, they'd bring it out as a new Mini !!!!
Enought Already
I guess this version will sell to trendy/LGB builders looking for a secure pick-up truck. One assumes a ladder rack will be available as an option...you can already get the giant Red Bull can!
(The last tiny pick-up based on a 'city' car was produced by Suzuki on the original Alto. Named Mighty Boy which tells you all you need to know!)
All we don't need now is the Wolsley, Riley square grill and squared boot lid and ex-london cab rear light clusters to complete the badge engineered set.
A rear mounted pop-up spoiler triggered at 50?
Does rather indicate some flawed thinking about the affect on dynamics of lost weight and aerodynamics afforded by a full length roof line coupled with a needlessly powerful engine..
One wonders if the proposed 3-seat, 3-cylinder 3-door version will be a similarly light arsed, tail swinging handful, bet that does not get fitted with the largest engines on the options list...
It might just be possible to have too much of this curate's egg motor car.
These lovely floral decor stickers do well comouflage the poor non-miniish design, they will help to sell the car much better. BMW should rethink the idea of using only powerful engines though. With the stickers this car will be a new girl's favourite.
