Ultimate Megane blasts off

Renaultsport teases fans with new video of fastest ever Megane.

Watch out Volkswagen, there's a new hot hatch star on the scene. Renaultsport is plotting an even hotter version of the Megane 250 which will make its public debut on June 17th.

Set to rival the likes of the VW Golf R, as well as the Astra VXR Nurburgring edition, the car gets a power boost of around 15bhp - taking the total to 262bhp – lightweight bodywork and upgraded suspension, as well as a bright red paint job and chequered flag style stickers.

This video is the first to reveal the car, and shows engineers unleashing the newcomer at the Nurburgring in Germany.

This Megane features alongside the previous-generation R26.R in the video, but unlike that car – which featured a roll-cage and race-harnesses – the newcomer will have a cabin almost identical to the RS Megane 250. 

Setting the hot-hatch lap record at the 'ring back in 2008, with a time of 8 minutes and 16.9 seconds, the Megane R26.R is still the fastest road car Renaultsport have ever produced, and it remains to be seen whether the new model will be even quicker. Looks like we'll have to wait until the 17th June to find out.
