How’s this for a test drive? To drum up interest in its all-new, closed-wheel sports car, UK firm Caterham is offering potential owners a blast round the track.
The SP/300.R packs a 300bhp punch from its supercharged Ford 2.0-litre motor. And at only 525kg, it will surely win over wavering buyers with its huge performance.
A departure from the firm’s Lotus Seven-inspired cars, the £60,000 newcomer won’t be road legal at first. Instead, it’s lining up track day enthusiasts as well as amateur racers who’ll take part in a one-make series next year. Since the car’s January unveiling, Caterham has taken deposits on 14 of the 25 examples due to be built this year. The track days take place this autumn at Donington Park, Leics, and Snetterton, Norfolk.
Caterham motorsport manager Simon Lambert said: “We can’t wait to see the look on people’s faces when they try the SP/300.R for the very first time. We are confident it will be everything they expect – and more.”
