Boost for Toyota's UK factory

Following the announcements that BMW and Nissan will pledge a total of  £692million into UK production facilities, Toyota is the latest to provide a boost to the UK motor industry with the announcement it will begin exporting the British-built Avensis to Japan.

The model is built at Toyota’s plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire and is already exported to 47 countries worldwide. This latest move will result in an additional 750 Tourer estate models a month produced to be exported to Japan from July. 

Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd Managing Director Katsunori Kojima said: “We are very proud that the Avensis has been selected for export to Japan. This is yet another vote of confidence for the factory and the high quality of our products.”

The decision to export the Avensis to its home-market was prompted by an increase in demand from Japanese customers for European styling and engineering. Each car will be powered by 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox.

I would love to buy a Toyota but Lord Almighty they produce some ugly cars.
The word "style" doesn't seem to be in their volcabulary.

Good news for Britain

This really is good news for Britain, but only God knows why the Japanese would want to import this. They must have a sow's ear of a car. Plus, I wouldn't have said this is European styling, more like computer styling. Who signed off on this disaster? A big step back from the old Avensis. This model even looks more boring than the first generation Avensis, and that was a typical jelly mould and dull to boot!

the car in front is a Toyota!

Styling looks a bit German all computer... But they are good cars and nice one Toyota for making the investment... unlike the german makers who apart from the Mini do nothing for the British economy ...
