Got your eye on a Vauxhall Ampera? Now, thanks to Europcar, you can try before you buy. The car hire giant has signed a deal with Vauxhall that will see the range-extender hybrid offered as a rental car throughout Europe.

To coincide with the production car's arrival, the plan is to deploy the first cars in Germany from November, followed soon after by Belgium and the Netherlands. France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the UK will follow suit in early 2012.

Customers are being warned to allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes for the handover process, as Europcar employees have be trained to deliver a briefing on how to get the most out of the car. Things such as battery charging, the range extender engine and the energy consumption and energy efficiency displays, will all be explained in plain English.
