Meet the new face of the Audi A5. The Ingolstadt firm has given the A5 range a major overhaul to enable it to keep pace with its German rivals, with the Coupe, Cabriolet and Sportback models all given a host of updates.
On the outside, the A5 takes on the latest Audi corporate look, with the introduction of the new grille first seen on the A7. The headlamp units are now stepped, and narrower than before, while revised LED light clusters make an appearance at the back.
Under the bonnet, there's a revised selection of engines to choose from: the entry-level 1.8-litre TFSI has been fettled to produce 168bhp and 320Nm of torque, while in the range-topping S5 Coupe, the stunning 4.2-litre V8 has been scrapped in favour of the cleaner, more powerful 3.0-litre V6 TFSI unit.
Kicking off the diesel range is a frugal 2.0-litre TDI, which combines 175bhp with 60mpg and CO2 emissions of just 122g/km. This is joined by three V6 diesels: two of these are differently tuned versions of the same 3.0-litre unit offering either 201bhp or 242bhp. The other will be a super-efficient unit meeting Euro 6 emissions targets, which will be introduced after the September launch.
Interior tweaks are more subtle, but the main news is that the Sportback can now be specified with a practical five seat arrangement. For the rest of the range, there's a new steering wheel and automatic gear selector, plus a reworked version of the MMI infotainment system.
Perhaps responding to some criticism of the A5's driving dynamics, Audi has modified the chassis settings for the facelift, focusing in particular upon the rear suspension and dampers. In addition, there's a new set-up for the electric power-steering, which should improve feel.
The new Audi A5 will be available to order from September, with the first cars reaching UK shores before the end of 2011. Pricing is yet to be released, but expect a small hike to the tune of about £200. As such, entry to the range will cost around £25,500.

love the new lights and hope they do the same to the RS5
Is it an A5, A6, A7....? Who cares, its another boring Audi that looks the same as all the rest. I wonder what electronically controlled crap they have on this one that the second owner will have to pay a fortune to fix once the warranty is up, just like every other Audi from the last 8 years!
Another boring effort from Audi, and no doubt the handling will be poor coupled with poor economy, Audi's never do what they are supposed to as regards MPG.
it amazes me how some people can criticise a brand, well just dont buy it! i don't like some bmw's but to say they all the same is very silly, all cars have there standard corporate face,I do agree that the dealers try and charge you a arm and your legs to repair faults that the car can develope a few years down the road but i dont think audi is in isolation here but i would welcome from audi inprovements in this area, i welcome the new look of the A5 and am glad they have not changed it too much. The new A5 sportback will have 5 seats , this makes this car very practical if you dont want a boring saloon from any of the premium brands.Well done Audi !!!

This seems to work really well.Obviously taking its influence from the range topping R8. Another winner that will sell really well!
The earlier comments "skyliner38" is just commical!! If your going to make make a statement at least get your facts right.
Audi are renound for there build quality and reliability. You may not like the car but thats your opinion. Audi always win on build Quality and engine efficiency in group tests.Fact! Look at the A6 as an example. Go and have a look.!
Why are audi's so efficient? Because they derive there technology from there Le Mans racing cars, which are as powerfull as formula 1 cars, but run for 24 hours, not 3 hours and never break down. Hence there pedigree in Le Mans and as a brand.
Plus thanks to the guys at bentley, audi's interiors are some of the best in there class.
You never seem to see people slaaging off mondeo's, even though they look totally inept. No the average jo just has to slag off either BMW Audi or Merc.
People who don't know alot about cars or have any interest in cars should't right such inane drivel!!
* "slagging off mondeo's" lol
Everyones entitled to an opinion but leave the ford mondeo out of it,I drive the car not the badge and the mondeo is probably one of the best cars on the road!!! PS this average joe can also spell.
...Because it's got chavtastic repmobile headlights! As for Trev164; he is right, you can't spell and the Mondeo is a better car than the equivilent A4 ringbinder from Audi!
Paramore1 seriously everyone's opinion about certain cars will be different. I have owned a BMW 325 SE and an Audi S4 Avant, both ok cars, but to be fair, my Jags have been so much better in virtually every area, so until you have driven all 3 brands and a Mondeo, don't take the mick!
It looks exactly the same as before and just like every other Audi on sale today.
Future26, there is a difference between making the cars look similar with a corporate face and looking exactly the same. Alfa have the V grill but all their cars look different. All the Audis look EXACTLY the same, in the rear view mirror there is no difference between an A8 and an A3.
Paramore, you do know the A6 is renowned for its dodgy gear boxes, a lad here has had his in 3 times in the last 2 months all with gearbox related issues. Oh and the Audi interior is drab as they come. Not a single interesting design feature, just like parent firm VW. In the A6 especially its almost exactly the same as it was 6/7 years ago which isnt good.
Fresh update on a beautiful car.
looks like something out of TRON
Compared to the newer designs like the range rover evoque this car is now looking tired and dated. Given the choice I would buy an evoque any day over this.
