Gordan Murray Design T27 revealed

First official pictures of the world's most efficient electric car

Gordon Murray Design T27

20th July 2011

Here is the first official picture of the world’s most efficient electric car. It’s called the Gordon Murray Design T27, and is based on the petrol-powered T25.

The compact model weighs 680kg, and is shorter than a Smart ForTwo, at 2.5 metres long. Even so, there’s room for three adults and, with the rear seats flat, up to 720 litres of luggage space. Power comes from a 33bhp electric motor, giving 0-62mph in less than 15 seconds. The small battery provides a range of 100 miles, with a full charge taking about five hours. Gordon Murray Design aims to have the T27 in production in 2013, and is in talks with three potential investors.

The company is also seeking funds for its revolutionary iStream production process, which allows for smaller, greener and cheaper factories. A target price for the T27 is set at £13,000, before the Government’s £5,000 electric car grant is deducted.

Too small and the range is too short.

genius

Gordon Murray is a genius...... it might look strange but its brilliant - put me down for one please.

This might work

The car is not too small (because it can hold even more adults than a Smart ForTwo) and the range isn't too short because many commuters don't have to travel more than 50 miles to go to work.
Chargingtime of 5 hours ain't bad either and the price ain't high.
This might work!

Cool, but...

I probably wouldn't be caught in one (lol). You'd look like bit of a d***. Even if you do save money on petrol.

Hideous

Is there are rule that says that electric vehicles have to be designed like they are committee designed Motability vehicles?
Why has it been finished in Robin Reliant Blue?

This will work

This car will be the most green in terms of total build and running costs. I'm sure investors will be found. Anyone not happy with the body - don't worry and the construction scheme makes it easy to change it. It will cause a revolution.

Well

I was, and suppose still am skeptical about this whole thing, but an all electric 3 seater car for 13000-5000 sterling?

Gordon Murray could be into something, after all.

Battery Life

My worry about electric cars is battery life and replacement cost of the battery. If battery specification is designed by Gordon Murry it gives great confidence. My natural choice would be for the Diesel. Since the petrol version achieved 96mpg on Brighton/Central London economy run, the estimate for the Diesel was 135mpg extrapolated from the Petrol engine.

Extreme lightness does wonders for economy & performance; what's remarkable is that the T25 & T27 achieve a 4 star NCAP safety rating without weight. Add good handling and ride, unlike its competitors, & other manufacturers will hate it becuase the T25/7 is too good.

Brilliant car design by Gordon Murry emulates Sir Alec Issigonis of the original Mini fame. The interior space is remarkable within the size of car, almost like Dr Who's "TARDIS"

I WANT ONE, it will be a good time to sell my existing car in 2013.

Tom

I love it, and will definitely get one. The electric one only takes 4 hours to charge from a normal socket, and it would cost about a £1 to charge at normal rates, imagine if you charged it at night-time rates! And that means it is about 0.7-1p per mile. The battery would last for about 10 years/100.000 miles, like the nissan leafs i presume, and it would about £5000 to replace, as half of the cars price is for the battery. In the next few years, batterys will become much cheaper, possible even five or six times cheaper, as they will be mass produced.

Sorry but its looks and range are not really outstanding!

To sell something in any volume - immaterial what - it has to look right!

And here the initial colour of this presentation photo car is the first blunder - it could have been better!

And I am sure one can design a better looking and more balanced looking car.

Plus the range has to be around 200 miles methinks ?

Fair play

It is a small car with a short range. BUT it is suitable for a certain market (If you need a second car for dropping the kid or two at school, and a trip to the local shops its ideal). Not sure about the styling though. You might want to drop your kids off round the corner from school and only shop after dark
