The facelifted Renault Twingo has taken its first public steps, more than a month ahead of its scheduled worldwide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
UPDATE: Official 2012 Renault Twingo picture now released
Our spies caught this re-styled model completely undisguised in France – and it's clear that the updated model has a very different look. At the front it gets Renault's new grille and headlight arrangement, with a larger, more prominent diamond badge, which was first revealed on the DeZir.
However, designers have controversially added a pair of prominent circular spotlights too. At the rear the tailights are split into two separate units.
Other changes are likely to include an updated cabin with higher quality trim, while engines will be carried over from the current car, but made more efficient thanks to tweaks to the car's electronics.
The range currently includes 1.2-litre petrol and 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engines. While the entry-level variant emits 119g/km of CO2, Renault will be striving to get the Twingo below 100g/km for road tax-free status.

sadly, it still hasn't got 5 doors. Renault hasn't learned their lesson.
The head and rear lights are hedious.
This definitely fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch. Once again Renault have taken a quite uncluttered design, tinkered with it [for no apparent reason IMO] and have come up with something that just doesn't work. They did it before with the Clio, now the Twingo gets the treatment. Presumably the new front light configuration will be carried over to the new Twingo and its Smart ForTwo sibling where it might look OK but just now it looks like the motoring equivalent of bad plastic surgery.
I agree with the fact that the new Twingo has a completely new look, but I don't like it at all. This facelift has completely spoiled the whole car.
I believe that the front part of "old" twingo was from the best of this model. Although this will change in future, the appearance of the car it depends on color. The purple is beautiful. The sport appearance fit with sport color, because the new twingo looks like more sport than chic
Shay does it have to look like this?
The original was best and hopefully the all-new model will capture some of its unique character. This questionable facelift is just to prolong the life of an extremely dull looking car.
I own a 60 plate Twingo Renaultsport 133, and love it to bits but as for the new Twingo, what were they thinking it looks an old granny car!
Maybe it should look more like this...
