KTM's Twizy rival

Austrian firm KTM reveals all-electric three-wheeler

KTM's Twizy rival

15th August 2011

KTM – the company best known for making motorbikes and the stripped out X-Bow trackday car – has revealed a Renault Twizy-rivalling all-electric three-wheeler.

Called the KTM E3W, the two-seater gets a 20bhp electric motor and draws power from a lithium-ion battery pack.

A lightweight plastic body means the E3W weighs just 500kgs, which allows for a range of 60 miles on a full charge.

This prototype was built with the help of the Austrian Institute of Technology, but KTM insists they are looking at a production run from 2013 starting at around £4500.

Excellent for dodgy pensioners and frantic Mums to pop down to Sainsburys and pick up the weekly shop. But the Govt must allow it to be totally Tax Free and fund special parking bays at the supermarkets with covered walkways to keep the olde codgers nice and dry.
As most journeys are less than 60 miles, this one is a runner.
