The two millionth MINI has rolled off the production line at its factory in Oxford.

More than 1.5 million MINIs have been exported to customers in more than 90 countries around the world since the BMW MINI went on sale back in 2001.

The two millionth MINI is a Convertible and has been painted in White Silver metallic with a blue denim roof. A selection of bespoke interior and exterior options have been fitted, including special alloy wheels and a distinctive leather steering wheel.  The car is the prize on offer in a global Facebook campaign called ‘Two Million MINIs – Two Million Faces’. The competition involves photographs of the faces of two million MINI fans being collected and built to create a dedicated Facebook wall.

BMW recently announced an additional £500 million investment for MINI production facilities at the Oxford plant, looking to the future with the next-generation hatchback range due on sale late next year.

Prime Minister David Cameron has driven the special MINI and said, “It’s a real privilege to drive this true British icon off the production line today. The two millionth MINI is a fantastic symbol of the UK’s strength in the global automotive industry.”

Having produced 216,302 vehicles in 2010, MINI was the third-largest vehicle manufacturer in the UK, accounting for 17 per cent of national automotive production. The plant currently produces four MINI models – the Hatchback, Convertible, Clubman and the new MINI Coupe.  A fifth model, the Roadster, will join the line-up at the end of this year.

@RaviShanker. Spot On! The grinning workers aren't sycophants, they know about the superglue on the seat and steering wheel.

Nice tan....then it would be!

I'm just amazed he could fit this in between holidays! Perhaps that's why it's LHD, because he's so used to driving on the right when he's abroad.
Shame people who aren't on Facebook [i.e. they have a life] are excluded.
