French giant Peugeot’s new Ford Kuga rival is shaping up. Our exclusive main image, produced using inside information, shows the SUV, which is likely to be called the 2008. And our spies have caught its Citroen sister model on test.

Both newcomers are being developed in conjunction with Mitsubishi, and will be based on the Japanese company’s ASX. It’s not the first collaboration between the brands. The Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser were both based on Mitsubishi’s Outlander.

The 2008 is likely to preview design elements of the replacement for the 207, with a 508-inspired grille and prominent Peugeot badge. The cabin promises a premium feel, as well as an extensive list of options, including sat-nav. A wide range of petrol and diesel engines is likely.

The 2008 is due in the middle of 2012, with prices from around £16,000. The as-yet-unnamed Citroen arrives at the same time.

Mitsubish ASX

It's a rebadged ASX which is no bad thing. Interesting what engine they put under the bonnet. Looks nice though

Not another boring shaped Kuga please!!!!

Is it just me or does everybody making the same boring dull cars these days.

I would rather buy a Land Rover and invest in British jobs thank you very much

Would love a Range Rover, but they are way way out of my league and price range as nice as they are.

Land Rover is still expensive but l would rather save up for a bit longer something l want, than regret forever after like something thats second best like the cheap but very boring shaped Kuga, ASX, 4007.

If l had to buy foreign and shaft British workers jobs, it would have to be the superb Yeti, or seeing all cars look the same Kia or Hyundai cheap versions with better value better warranties.

Put me down for a Land Rover even if it takes me a bit longer to save up for one.

Golly l am starting to sound like a list of cars that Auto Express recommends these days.

Kuga not boring!

The Kuga is one of the better looking cars of this type and it certainly ain't cheap. Those who can't tell one car from another and think all cars look the same aren't really motoring enthusiasts. The Kia Sportage is not boring and doesn't look like anything else on the road, likewise the Skoda Yeti and Nissan Juke. There's more variety out there than ever before if you just look. As for this rehashed ASX, hopefully Peugeot's version won't look as dated.

Would rather buy a Land Rover as it helps the British economy & keeps Brits in a job personally myself, though it our Children & Grandchildren's future prospects that matter the most to me.

Ford Kuga is made in Germany & ASX & 2008 are Made in Japan not a place l would want to export my earned cash & jobs to.

looks like a ds4 on steriods boost if thats possible.

to me this car looks like its been to local drug dealer and got some beta blockers its just a pumped up ds4 with the c crosser underpinnings.
