Honda will give its current Civic Type R a performance send off ahead of the all new hatch, thanks to an upgraded Mugen edition featuring a more powerful 2.2litre engine.
Last year, just 20 limited edition hand-built, motorsport-derived Type R Mugen models went on sale in the UK and now the official tuning company is producing a unique final version of the acclaimed hot hatch.
Christened the Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2, power and torque are up 30 per cent, with 256bhp and peak torque at 240Nm.
Created as a fitting tribute to the highly successful Honda K20 2.0-litre petrol engine that has ceased production in Japan, sports suspension, uprated brakes and a performance body kit help the MUGEN model stand out.
Formed in 2006, Mugen Euro have built or tuned almost 400 examples for race and rally competitors around the world. Plans for the 2.2 car have yet to be finalised, but its expected existing owners will be invited to return their 2010 model cars for an upgrade. Potential buyers can expect to pay a hefty price in the region of £38,000.
