Jaguar Land Rover has announced plans to open an all-new engine factory in Wolverhampton, creating 750 jobs in the process.
“Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “Jaguar Land Rover’s decision to build its new engine plant in Wolverhampton is fantastic news. It means over 700 new jobs for local people, an investment of over £300 million in the West Midlands and recognition of the expertise in the British workforce and manufacturing sector.”
Expect to see V6 and V8 petrol engines constructed at the new plant, along with a V6 diesel unit. Future four-cylinder engines, previewed in concepts like the DC100 Defender model, will also likely be built at the plant.
The majority of JLR's current engine line-up is built in a dedicated Jaguar facility within Ford's Bridgend plant in South Wales as part of a tie-up between the two manufacturers.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said :“JLR choosing Wolverhampton for its new engine plant in the face of tough international competition is a tremendous boost for manufacturing in the UK and the West Midlands in particular.”
