Audi RS5 on way

Images reveal RS5 convertible is on the way – and is set to offer stunning pace

The fearsome Audi RS5 coupe is set to spawn a convertible version. These drawings leaked from the Patent Office confirm that a drop-top is on the way.

The images reveal that the V8-powered soft-top will mirror the look of the facelifted A5, with more contoured headlights.

The RS5 Coupe – featuring the same makeover – is due on sale in the UK early next year, suggesting the new convertible could be unveiled shortly afterwards. Expect strong performance, with the extra weight for bracing unlikely to blunt straight-line speed. Top speed is limited to 155mph, but the 0-62mph sprint should come in at less than five seconds, thanks to an identical 444bhp power output.

Gearing is via Audi’s seven-speed twin-clutch S tronic box, while Dynamic Ride Control offers three suspension settings. As with the RS5 Coupe, power is sent to all four wheels via a self-locking centre differential with 60 per cent weighted to the rears.

Prices for the convertible are expected to start at around the £60,000 mark.
