Hyundai has revealed that it's 2+1 Veloster coupe will go on sale in February next year with a starting price-tag of £17,995 for the most basic model, rising to £21,745 for a Veloster Sport equipped with a dual-clutch gearbox.

All Veloster models are powered by a 138bhp 1.6-litre GDi petrol engine and Blue Drive models get stop/start and low rolling resistance tyres. This drops CO2 emissions from 148g/km to 137g/km and improves fuel economy to 47.9mpg.

Two trims levels are available – Veloster and Veloster Sport. The former gets 17-inch alloys, a 7-inch touch screen, Bluetooth, climate control and reversing sensors as standard. Sport models add 18-inch alloys, black leather upholstery with heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and cruise control.

A media pack, which includes sat-nav a rear-view camera and seven-speaker audio system is also available.

The Hyundai Veloster is also included in the five year triple car package that covers warranty, health checks and roadside assistance for five years.

Shame

I was looking forward to the idea of a powerful, fun to drive, great looking value for money alternative to the Mini / A1 etc.

But they've priced it too high, it's power output seems puny, it looks awkward and, lets face it, it's not going to drive as well as the competition is it?

A missed opportunity - I'll wait for the new Toyota FT-86 instead (new Celica). How bad would you feel if you bought one of these then Toyota puts the FT-86 on sale for the same money?!

Back looks like a squeezed -in Astra .. front .. well,, erhmmm..
The FT-86 kills this by miles....

NO no no!

Looks Naff

The badge is already naff. Hyundai need to try harder and keep the prices realistic. £18,000!!!! you could buy an Alfa Romeo and BMW for that price!

toooooo expensive

the new i30 is a much better choice and costs much less, being almost the same car.
Who will spend 18000 pounds juast for the basic model of a 136 hp car from Korea?
For that money you can get a VW Golf, BMW series 1 (the new one is a winner),, ALFA ROMEO Giulietta, HONDA Civic
etc with a lot more class, quality, performance and style.

To be competitive, the basic Veloster model should start at around 15000 pounds, otherwise it will be short lived.

Lost the plot

Hyundai have lost the plot with its new coupe. I had one of the original coupes, back in 1997, which was a great car to drive - and to look at. I had it for three years from new, and it was a pleasure to drive and own. I wouldn't even consider this model if I was seriously after a coupe. As for the price - well I paid £17,500 for my coupe se model, more than ten years ago - but at least it had more than a passing resemblance to a ferrari, which is more than can be said for this new one !

Too Pricey

I am surprised at the high asking price for this car - it really is too expensive for what is esentially just a small Hyundai, albeit it quite nice looking. There is nothing particularly clever about this car either - a Honda CRZ looks better value. Its more technically interesting and I think looks better than this. Also not forgetting the still very appealing VW Scirocco - about 1900 quid dearer - I think Hyundai have overpriced the Veloster.

FT-86 at 18,000?!

If you really think the FT-86 will be in the same price bracket as this please get me a glass of the stuff you've been drinking.

uhmm!

It looks like the BMW 1 series, but not quite as ugly.

Squint

IF you hang upside down from an Argos trampoline and close one and squint the other one, it looks just a tiny bit like a VW Scirocco! That will please AE as the haven't featured a VW on here for at least 20 minutes :o)
