Eterniti reveals plans

New British car maker Eterniti Motors has revealed more details on the Hemera and future plans for another luxury SUV and a supercar

Eterniti Hemera

13th December 2011

When new British car maker Eterniti Motors launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show back in September, it certainly raised a few eyebrows. But now the firm has revealed more details on its plan to build a model to fill a gap in the market for a super-luxury SUV.

The Eterniti Hemera is based on the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, but much like other Porsche-based specials from firms such as Ruf, the Cayenne is stripped down and rebuilt to Eterniti's own specification. The firm's objective is to build a 4x4 which offers the space and luxury of a Rolls-Royce in the rear, yet still be a fun car to drive.

To achieve this, Eterniti has turned to the British motorsport fraternity. Engineering is being handled by a team headed by Alastair Macqueen, who was responsible for the development of the Jaguar XJ220 and three Le Mans 24 Hours winners. He is joined by ex-Formula One race winner Johnny Herbert, who has already provided feedback on the car.

"Alistair and the team have done a great job so far," Johnny told Auto Express. "I had my first drive of the prototype at a kart track last week, and I couldn't believe how quickly it got round considering its size. The steering has great feedback, and there's definitely more to come in terms of handling.

"Coming from a motorsport background, we have the ability to develop the car quickly when other makers would stop to have a meeting about every little detail."

The balance they are aiming for will put the Hemera on a par with a BMW M5 in terms of handling and comfort. Performance has also been tweaked, with the first production models getting around 600bhp.

Outside, every body panel bar the roof and window frames will be changed to give the Hemera a unique look, while the lights are custom made and new wheels increase the car's track.

Inside, the rear bench has been replaced by a pair of plush seats that have been set back by 120mm to provide greater legroom. These will be electrically reclining, heated and cooled, while two standard-fit iPads and keyboards will keep passengers entertained. Buyers will be able to personalise their cars to a high standard from launch.

Because Eterniti is using an established model for its base, it believes it can beat firms such as Bentley and Maserati to the luxury SUV market. The firm is planning to reveal a production version of the Hemera at the Beijing Motor Show in April – China is the target market for this model – and has plans to sell 80 cars in 2012, with annual sales of 150 cars thereafter. Buyers can expect a price tag of around £150,000 before personalisation.

Following the release of the Hemera, Eterniti is planning to release a second derivative – possibly a less powerful Hemera – in 2012 and another luxury SUV. A bespoke supercar, based on the teaser sketch shown in our pictures, is also planned and "will fully express Eterniti's brand DNA and its own design language.

ugly. if they really wanted to make a sporty 4x4 then why not take a standard land rover and tune it up. LR are much better looking

OMG!

That car is revolting...I hope we never see on on the road! The designer has got to have the worst taste ever! I'd rather a 1980's Skoda than that. I have a new model Cayenne and I think Porsche should not these people do this!!!

Eterniti !!!!!

It will take an "Eterniti" to sell ONE.
Ha Ha what a load of rubbish in a declining Market Place with recession just around the corner.
Do not employ their Marketing manager when he losses his job ....... soon.

What crap - for people with too much money and no taste

This is a rather tasteless tuning to make an ugly car even uglier. I admire what KAHN can achieve with some of their tuning packages but this is an abomination. I put this up there with Jordan painting our Range Rover pink!!

Decisions....decisions

Urrghhh, this is a tough one. What shall I choose, will it be the dog turd, or will it be the Eterniti? No, no, it's too close to call. I've got to go and have a drink first, to help cloud my brain.

April fools joke?

The more money someone has, the lower the taste. It looks like one of those cars built by that Indian guy in the London arches as seen on sky tv.

What?

They are just a customiser. How can you call them a car maker?

By dastardly01 on 18 December, 2011, 3:13pm

Dear God!

That thing looks like it fell from the very highest reaches of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. It'll go down a storm in Cheshire and Essex.
It's almost bad enough to make me want to gouge out my eyes.

'S'illy and 'U'tterly 'V'ain...

I can't help thinking that perhaps an SUV isn't the best platform to use to promote yourself as a new performance car maker... ^^
