The BMW 1 Series range has been expanded with the introduction of an M-Sport package and three new engines.

One petrol and two diesel units make up the new arrivals, and the most notable addition is the 116d that returns 74.4mpg and CO2 emissions of just 99g/km. With 116bhp on offer from the 1.6-litre diesel engine, the 1 Series can also accelerate from 0-62mph in 10.5 seconds.

The other diesel – the 125d – gets a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine producing 218bhp. As well as a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds, the 125d is surprisingly efficient, with an economy figure of 58.9mpg.

Elsewhere, the 125i is the sole petrol arrival, which produces 218bhp from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. A 0-62mph time of 6.4 seconds makes it the fastest 1 Series in the range.

The M Sport package arrives as the flagship trim level. It includes sports suspension lowered by 10mm, a bodykit and M Sport alloys. Inside, BMW has fitted an M badged steering wheel, doorsills and gearlever.

No thanks

Even considering the excellent engineering and fancy add-ons of the M-Sport trim, I cannot warm to a car that looks like this.

I hope they rethink the front end for the 2 series coupe and convertible.

All hail!

This car is made in Europe. It has a propeller badge. It is a BMW. It is a triumph of automotive engineering and style. It is unparalleled in the automotive world.

M-sport?

So British punters are still willing to pay more dosh for something that trashes the aready marginal ride comfort the sake of some M badges to look at. In this now a UK only model line? What's the difference between M-sport and Sport trim?

What about inside?

They can tweak the engines and exterior as much as they like, but it's that dreadfully drab interior that really needs a makeover.

SAME AS THE LAST 1 SERIES EXCEPT MORE UGLIER !

NO DOUBT BMW BUILD SOME QUALITY EXECUTIVE CARS, BUT THE INTERIOR PLASTICS & STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON MANY 1 SERIES IS APPALLING THEREFORE MAKE THIS LITTLE CAR MASSIVELY OVERPRICED.
