I am by no means a Mini fan but they are to be commended in recalling the vehicles rather than trying to sit tight and hope the fuss will all die away. From what I gather, quite a proportion of car owners who get recall letters never do anything about it. Hopefully few will be so foolish in this case.
The only other thing to hope is that AE are not tempted to do a repeat of that rather silly item it carried about vehicle recalls in 2011!
It would be a bit more useful if AE had actually reported details of the cars being recalled so readers can quickly find out if they are affected rather than every Cooper/Cooper S owner having to call a dealer after reading this.
MINI will be contacting owners of affected cars directly, so if you own a Cooper S or JCW, you'll be hearing from MINI very soon.
Thanks

What is an electric Water Pump doing on the car in the first place? There is too much electronics in cars. BMW and Benz cars have become finicky and more unreliable because of this.
I have an 08 and my ex a 10... What crap cars.. To much tech.. Coffee cup holders fall out.. Dashboard speedo glass crack from the sun.. But worst of all the sunroof... Sticks inthe sun and won't open unless you turn the AC on for half an hour..(both cars) .. And of course when you call customer support they refer youth thedealers who refer you to customer support...
I have owned mini's all my life.. We know they are quirky.. Quirky and cheap was the British car.. Quirky and fing expensive is the German owned mini.
The electric water pump was fitted to reduce fuel consumption, something that the UK is obsessed with as our government taxes fuel so highly. When the car is idling or during stop/start mode the pumps speed is reduced, saving energy/fuel.
Crap cars? I'm on my fourth MINI and have had very few issues on any of the cars. This is why you have a warranty, the service and support I've had from the dealerships has been exemplary.
Considering there have been so few issues with the water pump globally, I'm very glad. MINI are taking the lead and being so consumer focused. Well done, a very happy customer. :)
It's only N18/N19 engine code models, from 2006 - 2011 mostly, and it affects most of the models that include this Cooper S engine, including the Countryman, and BMW/Mini are carrying out the work free of charge at no expense to the owners at all.
Agree with "aeolus" above, as BMW Mini have at least been honest about it and are taking all measures to make sure that owners aren't at risk.
