MG is back to selling cars, and now it has announced it will enter the 2012 British Touring Car Championship with two race-prepared MG6 GT cars.

The team – known as MG KX Momentum Racing – has enlisted double BTCC Champion Jason Plato and Andy Neate, who drove for Team Aon last season.

Jason Plato won the championship with Vauxhall in 2001 and Chevrolet in 2010. Since starting in BTCC he has amassed 68 career wins and more fastest laps and podium finishes than any other driver in the history of the BTCC.

Plato said: “It’s really exciting to be involved in a brand-new all-British team, and it’s just brilliant that the iconic name of MG will be back on the track.”

Guy Jones, MG Motor’s Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We are delighted that the new MG6 will be seen by millions of fans in Britain and beyond, and this continues the famous sporting lineage of the brand.”

The first race of the new BTCC season gets underway at Brands Hatch on 1 April.

BTTC - MG - Plato F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C the best motor sport on the box

As Murray Walker would say absolutely fantastic, BTTC is the most exciting form of any motor sport to watch at the moment.

Who wants to watch a Loeb v Ford Mo Co a two horse race, who have wasted billions to finish 2nd out of 2, that Loeb wins every year, no wonder its been banned from terrestrial TV. Only Loeb and his French crew was watching it on TV. Must be the most boring satellite TV show ever made.

WRC struggled to make it past the Monte Carlo fist event in 2012, due to total lack of interest, lack of sponsors its coming very close to be shut down discontinued.

Nothing better than watching Plato toast the opposition in a under powered Chevy, if only Chevy had invested in a turbo in 2011.

MG are back what brilliant news with Jason Plato and Andy Neate millions of motor sport fans will tuning in, to good to miss on the box. Has anybody got any free tickets for jonboy, to good to miss live as well? Come on MG we are all rooting for you.

MG back on the track - Excellent news

Plato and an MG sounds like a winning formula. I can't wait to see them on the track. Hopefully in front! That side skirt should be offered on the car. Any news yet of a diesel or six speed box?

BTCC + MG + Plato = Excitement

That's the best motorsport news I've heard so far this year. Now the BBC have dropped full live coverage of F1 by selling out to Dirty Murdoch's SKY I will be watching the BTCC coverage from now on. The car looks amazing and with Plato onboard, even if it's a little down on power or the handling is not quite there you just know Plato will chuck the MG at the finish line in first place by willpower alone, or at the opposition if they are stupid enough to get in his way XD

So MG, how about it? Isn't it about time you released a fire snorting, tyre smoking MG6 Turbo based on the BTCC car to smoke the competition?
