This will be big success in its class, rear 3/4 view is stunning, probably one of the best proportioned coupe designs for a long time, twin exhaust layout is spot on, unlike horrible design of Scirocco R. Looking forward to seeing it in the metal in a good colour. well done Toyota. Hints of 240Z to it?
Agree with all above. This new Toyota (and its BRZ sister) look superb and from all the reports read so far it appears to be a great drivers car too. Very tempting indeed.
This car is not a BMW made in Europe wearing a propeller badge. So I just know that many people will suggest that the GT 86 is no more than another bland styling exercise from Toyota that looks exactly like a Corolla.
Yes, excellent mark for Toyota, they got the balls to break their own Corolla-Prius-Aygos syndrom. I like the shape, the cockpit, the idea. Only the comparo with 370Z is flawed by some 120hp of difference in Nissan's favor. Hopefully soon we will see the 2.5 turbo boxer from Impressa WRX. This one I baddly want.
Whats gone right at Toyota, what ever were they thinking?
This must be a AE mistake, it must be a quality BMW or Mercedes.
What's the point of this car?
Less powerfully than a Golf GTILooks like a random AI car from Gran Turismo, rear wheel drive so highly impractical for the UK, petrol, and quoting Toyota 'owners can tune their cars'. Why? Because this one is woefully underpowered? The owner then has to pay for the powerful sports car Toyota should have made in the first place, plus theres only minimal tuning you can do to a NA cars before costs go through the roof.
Target market?
10bhp less is ''woefully underpowered''??? i'd say the 110kg lighter weight for the FT86 more than makes up for that? target market is keen drivers looking for sporty, low slung, stylish & differant coupe with RWD, In todays normal road & real world conditions, ie, ins.costs, fuel costs etc circa 200bhp is more than enough.
Target market is hairdressers. It was the original article that compared to a golf gti, FYI.
I'm merely commenting on the fact that we seem to have come to have to accept mediocre performance and are expected to pay top prices. If you want 200 bhp, Renault do a clip you can picked up for £15000. There are exec saloon diesels with more power. I do have friends with rear wheel drive cars( BMW, merc, Honda s2000) who have all commented that they wish they had never purchased such. This car will only be driven by split 50 year old ladies who lunch and men who idolise Gareth Cheeseman.

you probably would'nt fill the tank of the Toyota with what you'd get for the clio, big tank diesel exec saloons? compare like with like for Gods sake. are your friends sorry for buying RWD or just sorry for being ripped off with the grossly overpriced cars they bought? honda s2000, hmmm, now there's a hairdressermobile if ever you saw one. on a more serious note though chirpy, BHP is not everything in a car, i do think the GT86 is a nice car, refreshingly differant in many ways? sure it will be bought by lots just as a pose job, but that happens all cars in this niche. it probably should be starting at around £22.5k, tad overpriced ok.
