Kia Track’ster: first picture

The first official picture has been released of the Kia Track'ster concept ahead of its debut in Chicago

Kia Track’ster concept

06th February 2012

Following last week's teaser sketch, Kia has released this image of the Track'ster concept ahead of its debut at the Chicago Motor Show this month.

The concept has been designed by the same Californian design studio which penned the original Soul, and points towards a hotter and more exciting Soul variant. This would potentially giving Kia a rival to the Fiesta ST.

The image shows the concept car's wide track and Kia's trapezoidal design language. The large rear windscreen comes with high-mounted LED tail-lights integrated into its design, while the lower bumper sees a similarly shaped outlet with large exhaust pipes at each end. The side mirrors sit high, indicating a high waistline.

Expect a similar gaping front intake and massive wheelarches and alloys, too.

No more information has been revealed at this stage, with Kia suggesting that a 247bhp engine will power the Track’ster if it makes production. That’s 109bhp more than the most powerful Soul currently on sale.

The release of a fully developed prototype may be Kia looking for feedback, or evidence that the Korean firm has the Track’ster as part of its future model line up.

Big exhausts CHAVTASTIC

Will be a big hit outside McDonalds car parks big exhausts with front squealing tyres, will their be a bling holder for Vicky & Dave to stow their rings, and £12 fake rolex.

Will Kia do a burberry paint job for the Chavs as well.

Korean Chavmobile will only benefit the Korean economy/Korean auto industry, in Korea they only buy Korean cars and nothing else.

Yet another silly name

If it actually reaches production it is bound to be known as the "tractor".

Negative again

I can't believe the number of comments made to this site which are negative. I'm curious to know what some of these perfect people actually do.
One of the reasons we lost the British car industry was because we Brits failed to support it. I do accept that we never made cars the quality of Kia though!
If the front end is as good as the back it will be another winner for Kia. Incidentally I don't drive one - so no bias to my positive response.

I agree with Gregorius up to a point. Unless a vehicle has actually been seen or driven there is no way anyone can comment one way or another on build quality, interior space or driving ability. However if a vehicle looks dull or naff or has (my particular gripe) a very silly name there is no reason why this should not be commented upon.

Thumbs up from me.

I'm with Gregorius on this. The Koreans are progressing fast these days, and respect to them for that. I like the way they're pushing it a bit style-wise rather than just playing safe. And what's wrong with a couple of exhausts? Pretty much every similar class of car out there has them anyway. Or maybe I need to get my 08 S2000 out of the garage and head on down to MacDonalds a bit more often!
I've never owned a Korean car before, but can see the day coming when I do head to Kia/Hyundai showrooms for a test drive and possible purchase.

Style

Kia are starting to get bold with their designs and if this does make production, very big "IF", then it will put them on the map to compete with mainstream boring Fords and Vauxhalls. 99RON I wouldn't get shot of your S2000 as thats a lovely car. I have driven 3 Kia's, just bought one myself as I was impressed with the overall quality and drive of the car, and they do have alot to offer compared with previous toyotas and fords I've owned/driven.

One of the First Seeds of the Korean Automobile Industry was from Longbridge!

This does not automatically make Korean cars better - but at the same time it doesnot make them bad! Coming from The Austin Motor Company I experienced the disaster óf our motor industry with the keen support of Wilson & Co and ably helped by dismally inept Lord Stokes!

Forward thinking Alan Shepard ex Ford Motor Company and later Grand Met & Distillers - see what he achieved there! - wanted to take over from poor Stokes and complety revamp BL & all subsidaries but was prevented by - yes - the politicians!

That was before the unconvicted criminals that took over Longbridge from BMW then gave the main BL companies the Coupe de grace by thieving all available funds and getting away with it!!

What other country in Europe could you do that and not be tried, punished & imprisoned?

I say the Koreans car firms Hyundai and KIA are both doing a damned good job and achieving super real results completely with their own initiatives, no EU subsidies or backdoor favours from governments and sheer hard work and diligence. Well done Korea!

My new Sportage Diesel is just marvelous and our family love it! But not our local Mercedes dealer where I used to buy cars!

Looks OK to me

Some of KIA's more recent vehicle designs are really starting to interest me. 250bhp in smallish car, well it would definately be on my list of cars to test drive.
