Text Revolution Hits Garages

Calling the garage to find out the status of your car's repair is about to become a thing of the past. Owners will soon be able check up on the mechanics' progress via the Internet - and could even get a text message sent to their mobile phone when the vehicle is ready for collection.

The system is the brainchild of Audatex, a firm based in Reading, Berks, which provides computer software for the insurance industry. A leading insurer has already signed up to the initiative, known as AudaTrack, and is expected to go live across its repairer network this month. A spokeswoman for Audatex told us: "We are in talks with other insurers and expect the system to be used across the industry soon."
