S-Class Is Transformed Into An Electric Charger

15th January 2004

Mercedes has unveiled a groundbreaking 'green' S-Class. This hybrid version of the luxury saloon is the world's first rear-wheel-drive car to have a petrol engine and electric motors. The 309bhp V6 vehicle is capable of 0-60mph in 7.5 seconds, but uses 20 per cent less petrol than normal. A spokesman said: "It's a stopgap until fuel cell cars arrive in 10 years' time, and will be in production within five."
