Coupé Look For Next GS

This could be the car that changes the way people look at Lexus forever. With its coupé styling, the GS is as far removed from its predecessor as you can get.

Unveiled at Detroit, the newcomer follows on from the LF-S concept seen at last October's Tokyo Motor Show. The coup΃©-like looks are due to a curved roof, sloping C-pillar, long nose and short overhangs. And the GS is equally radical under the metal. It will feature all-wheel drive coupled to suspension that allows the driver to alter the damping settings.

On sale here next year, priced from around ΂£32,000, the car will come with a choice of two engines: the current 4.3-litre V8, tuned to 300bhp, plus a new 245bhp 3.0 V6. Power will be fed to all four wheels via a six-speed auto transmission fitted with a manual shift mode. Inside, the newcomer follows the usual opulent Lexus tradition. Top-quality leather is used throughout, while wood and brushed aluminium trim add to the upmarket feel. Comfort and safety are boosted further by a keyless entry system with push-button start, plus adaptive headlights and a parking camera.
