Faulty car batteries are the most common cause of a breakdown, but the problem could soon be solved by a new device that stops them going flat. Lighting expert Hella has developed the world's first 'intelligent' battery sensor. It makes sure a cell has enough charge to start the engine - even if it hasn't been used for a while. It checks the current and voltage and relays the data to the power management system to ensure charge is maintained.
