Disco Name Ditched As Landie Breaks 3

Off-road legend Land Rover has sensationally dropped the Discovery name for the third-generation car - but only in America. The firm opted to remove the badge for the US as it didn't believe Land Rover was established enough across the Atlantic.

Instead, the model, out later this year, will be called the Land Rover LR3. However, the number 3 will also grace UK cars - it will be known as Discovery 3. A spokesman said: "The Range Rover was the main product when we came to the States, so buyers think of it as a brand on its own, and regard Discovery as a Range Rover model name.
"Now we sell the Freelander in the US, it's vital we increase exposure of the Land Rover name - so the Disco's emphasis will be on the brand."

Meanwhile, the firm has unveiled three limited-edition run-out versions of the current Discovery. The Pursuit, Landmark and ES Premium LE will hit showrooms in early March, with prices to be announced shortly.
