A high price is expected when the number plate F1 goes under the auctioneer's hammer. The registration is being sold by Essex County Council, which first issued the number in 1904 when it was a licensing authority.

A spokesman said there had been a lot of interest. All bids have to be made before 9 July - the date of the opening practice session at this year's British GP. Money raised will go towards Essex road safety improvements.
