Joss To Give Some Supercar Rivals Some Stick

Say G'day to Australia's first ever supercar. This is the 6.8-litre V8-powered Joss, and it can sprint from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 200mph-plus.

22nd March 2004

Designed by Aussie Matt Thomas, a former member of the Stewart Formula One team, the car has been heavily influenced by the likes of the McLaren F1 and Ferrari F40. Matt said: "We have made it as aerodynamic as possible, but wanted it to look like a traditional supercar so that it will appeal to a wide range of people." The machine is still under development, and is expected to go on sale late next year for around ΂£250,000.

Changes still to be made include the use of carbon fibre for the chassis and body to help reduce weight. Also, a clever new suspension set-up and launch system is being designed to maximise take-offs from stationary. Thomas says the production car will sprint from 0-60mph in a record-breaking 2.5 seconds.
