It's what's under the skin that is most significant, though. Flagship versions will come with the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 that Auto Express sampled in the Chrysler 300C in Issue 796. To boost economy, the unit shuts down half its cylinders when they aren't required. Performance should be impressive; the current base 4.0-litre will be replaced by the 3.7 V6 from the Cherokee, while the 4.7 V8 remains.
The Grand will also be more capable on and off-road, as its 4WD system has a new electronic limited slip differential and all-new suspension. Inside, there will be a move upmarket, plus more room. Production of European cars - built in Austria - won't start until next spring, so UK buyers will probably have to wait until summer 2005 to take delivery of their new Jeep.
