A Little Bit Xtra Marks Out Stretched XJ

The concept has already become a reality. Following on from the preview we gave you in the magazine last week, the production long-wheelbase XJ will be on sale here in autumn.

14th April 2004

By adding 125mm to the wheelbase and 7mm to the rear roof height of the standard car, Jaguar has provided back seat passengers with plenty of space and an impressive extra metre of legroom. The length has been added to the chassis behind the B-pillar, making the rear doors longer for easier access.

Buyers can choose a variety of back seat configurations, from a standard bench to two luxurious chairs. Despite having more metal, only 24kg has been added to the overall weight of the standard XJ, so fuel economy, emissions and performance are virtually unchanged. The LWB will have the same engine line-up, and Jaguar is confident driving dynamics haven't been compromised. But, to maximise comfort for rear passengers, the suspension has been revised to improve refinement and reduce noise levels.
