The sounds of cockerels, bells and even crying babies are being tested by psychologists to see if they're any good at warning drivers of danger. Boffins at Leeds University want to find the best noises to alert motorists when on-board systems detect hazards. Tests have shown that drivers react quickest to sounds from the real world, rather than 'beep, beep' alarms.
