Tiida's Out As Almera Makes Waves

Does this car look boring to you? It certainly does to Nissan's European management, because they've turned down the opportunity to bring it to the UK as a replacement for the slow-selling Almera.

10th May 2004

The car is called the Tiida and goes on sale in its home market later this summer. But the Japanese firm says it has more radical plans for its new family hatch in Europe, which is expected to debut next year.

While the Tiida is a considerably toned-down version of the C-Note concept car unveiled at last year's Tokyo Motor Show, the British-bound model will retain some of the C-Note's more daring features, such as the steeply raked headlamps. It will also be further influenced by the styling of the Qashqai concept, seen at the Geneva expo back in March.

Boss Carlos Ghosn has also confirmed that Nissan is looking to develop a version of the striking Cube mini-MPV for Europe. This will appear in the UK in about three years' time. Also expected before 2007 is the long-awaited Skyline replacement, the GT-R, which has been given the green light for production.
