Tread Alert In Wet

27th May 2004

Drivers should change their tyres well before they reach the minimum legal tread depth, experts are warning. A British Rubber Manufacturers' Association study showed stopping distances in the wet increase by up to 30 per cent even when there's 3.5mm tread left, compared with a new tyre. The legal limit is 1.6mm.
