Three-year Cover Plan Offered

Finding time to renew your car insurance can be a real drag. However, motorists fed up with the annual ring-around can now take out a unique three-year policy, thanks to a new insurance scheme.

10th June 2004

The deal is the work of a company called Evolution Insurance - but is it worth it? We rang a couple of leading insurers to find out (see panel), and while it may save you time, it's not going to save you much money.

The multi-year package protects drivers from premium increases caused by accidents or speeding convictions picked up in later years. But from our figures, it seems the main benefit of the policy is that it removes the need to find cover every year. Mind you, a spate of fines could soon have that premium looking like good value. An Evolution spokesman said: "We build-in a small amount, assuming you will have a few knocks. The policy also assumes that the driver and car are going to get older, and that your no claims discount will get bigger."
