Brakes Pulled On Sensotronic

Advanced brake-by-wire technology has proved a step too far for Mercedes.

14th June 2004

A system developed by component maker Bosch, recently involved in a recall of the E-Class and SL, is now defunct - and there's no one working on a new generation of it.

Brake-by-wire, or Sensotronic as Merc calls it, has no mechanical links between the middle pedal and pads, relying instead on computer signals. The firm says better systems are in development.
