Lip Service Paid To TV's Star Car

KITT, the talking, listening car from TV's Knight Rider, has come a step closer to reality. Computer firm IBM is developing a lip-reading in-dash camera that picks up spoken commands. An on-board computer then analyses lip patterns to work out what's been said.

The system will work in conjunction with voice-recognition microphones, which currently have difficulty hearing clearly above engine and wind noise.
