New 607 Diesel Is A Right Off

Exclusive images in the current issue of Auto Express magazine show the revised Peugeot 607. The French firm's executive model has never been a sales success on this side of the Channel - and bizarrely, Peugeot seems intent on keeping that way.

While left-hand-drive versions will benefit from the introduction of the acclaimed 2.7-litre V6 diesel engine used by the Jaguar S-Type, customers in the UK will miss out. A Peugeot spokesman told Auto Express: "As 607 volumes in this country are so small, the company has decided not to develop the V6 diesel unit for right-hand-drive models."

Despite going without the flagship oil-burner, right-hooker 607s will get a new front bumper with larger air intakes and reshaped foglamps. Designers have also made minor changes to the rear, although the sleek appearance remains largely unchanged. The facelifted car will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September, before going on sale in the UK later in the autumn.
