European Safety Legislation

Italy introduced a law on 1st April requiring drivers of broken down vehicles to wear a reflective safety jacket when they leave the vehicle at night or when visibility is poor and Spain will enforce a similar law from 24 July. Non jacket wearers will face an on-the-spot fine of up to 138 Euros in Italy and up to 90 Euros in Spain.

07th July 2004

The AA recommends drivers of vehicles visiting Italy and Spain should carry two reflective jackets - one for the driver and one for a passenger, who may be required to assist with a vehicle breakdown, for example a wheelchange.
