Cut-price Cobra's A Maltese Flier

The sun is shining on AC Cars. Following the firm's move to Malta, it has announced a new 'affordable' model. The AC 289 V8 retains the legendary Cobra styling, but will use a 270bhp, 4.6-litre V8, and come with cheaper carbon fibre bodywork and power-steering. It will cost £44,950 when it arrives in the UK this autumn.

08th July 2004

AC boss Alan Lubinsky said: "Our factory in Malta means we can produce affordable cars to attract younger buyers." The company continues to build aluminium bodies in Frimley, Surrey, which are sold in the US as Shelby Cobras.
