Wedded Bliss is Sealed With A Kit

Getting married doesn't spell an end to driving fun - just look at this enterprising couple. For Dan and Rebecca Peters, the decision to tie the knot was an opportunity to get the car of their dreams.

08th July 2004

So rather than put toasters and dinner sets on the wedding list, they asked guests to buy them the parts needed to build an MK Indy kit car instead. "As with a lot of people these days, we've left it a bit later to get married," explained bridegroom Dan, from Oxford.

"We already have many of the items people usually add to a wedding list, so we thought we'd have a bit of fun instead." They chose the MK because the company, based in Worksop, Notts, was only too happy to help. "We came up with the idea together," added Dan. "We thought it'd be nice to do something together that we can both enjoy."

A spokesman for MK Sportscars, which supplies the Lotus 7 lookalike, said it was the first time the firm had arranged a wedding list, but added: "A sale's a sale, no matter who's paid!"

Construction usually takes a year, so if Dan and Rebecca get their skates on, they could have the Indy on the road in time for their first anniversary.
