Now The A4 Gets A Grilling

The heat is on at Audi to get the entire line-up under the grille! Following the A6 and A3 Sportback, the German firm's designers have now turned their attentions to the A4. And the current issue of Auto Express Magazine (issue 814) carries exclusive images.

As well as the chrome-finished nose, Audi has also taken the opportunity to remodel the headlamps. And despite the disguising tape, it's clear the A4's lights now have a sharper, more angular shape. The stylists are also expected to reprofile the rear bumper and tailgate, although changes inside are likely to be kept to a minimum. However, it is anticipated that engineers will get the chance to mildly rework the A4's suspension system in order to smooth out the ride quality.

Under the bonnet, buyers will benefit from a broad range of petrol FSI and diesel TDI engines borrowed from parent firm VW. Along with the existing 2.0-litre variants of both, Audi is also likely to offer the all-new 2.0T FSI turbo, to be showcased in the A3 Sportback.

Providing 200bhp and 280Nm of torque, the new unit will go on sale alongside the 3.2-litre V6, and will be available with Audi's impressive DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox) transmission. The facelifted A4 arrives on the Continent later this year, but UK buyers must wait until early 2005.
