A-Class Turbo Set To Blow In

Two weeks ago we brought you the official pictures of the new A-Class - now here's news of the engine line-up, which includes a turbo version for the first time.

13th July 2004

There are seven engine variants in all, topped by the hot 2.0-litre blown unit. The 193bhp A200 Turbo covers 0-60mph in eight seconds, and carries on to 141mph. It will be joined by four-cylinder 1.5, 1.7 and 2.0-litre petrol units, as well as three 2.0-litre oil-burners.

The CDI diesels are up to 38 per cent more powerful than current cars, with a maximum of 46 per cent more torque. All models comply with strict Euro IV emissions regulations. The A-Class, which will come in a choice of three trim levels, debuts here next February.
