Damning Report Paints Bad Picture For Ford

Eco-watchdogs are gunning for Ford! A gun containing dangerous radioactive material was lost from the maker's paint shop in Brentwood, Essex - and the blue oval was prosecuted and fined £42,000.

29th July 2004

The shock news is released in a new Environment Agency (EA) report. The firm pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to report the loss to police or the EA. Witness statements revealed inadequate control procedures at the plant, leading to criticism from EA investigators. "Having discovered that the gun was missing, only a cursory search took place, and the company had no emergency plan," the report states.
Ford wasn't the only big name shamed. Petrol firm Texaco was fined ΂£10,000 after an oil spill into the River Trent in Nottingham.
